5  Talk about Health, Fitness, & Exercise - Exercise Forum / Exercise Forum / Re: Bad and Good Exercises on: April 25, 2010, 07:24:29 PM
Thanks very informative post!!  I have alawys felt that Sit ups were bad for the back.

The Bad Exercises (avoid these)

• Lying straight-legged leg raises (first 45° off of floor, one leg at a time or both)
• Hanging leg rises with an arched back
• Sit-ups with feet supported
• Straight legged sit-ups
• Any machine-based ab exercise
• Any machine-based twisting exercise
• Torso twists (they provide no resistance, nor burn many calories)

Now that we’ve listed the exercises I recommend avoiding, provided below are the exercises that should be focused on in order to best develop the abs and hip flexors, as they provide the most resistance and encourage proper body positioning:

The Good Exercises (focus on these)

• Hanging leg raises (with hunched back)
• Hanging knee raises (with hunched back)
• Lying leg thrusts (hip thrusts)
• Decline bench leg thrusts (hip thrusts)
• Reverse crunches (crunching hips off floor)
• Ab bicycles (alternating knees to elbows)
• Ab scissors
• Stability ball crunches (weighted for progression)
• Bench crunches
• Alternating (oblique) crunches
• Weighted cable rope crunches (with hunched back)
• Ab wheel
• Stability ball hip flexion (knee tucks)
• Stability ball plank holds
• Floor side plank holds
• Abdominal vacuums (transversus abdominis development

Does running make bad knees worse?

I would think that running could definitely aggravate your knees.  I would recommend getting good shoes and just walking, perhaps a light jog at a slower pace.  Also I would try to find some softer ground to go on instead of concrete or pavement.

it all really depends what you can handle, but I would go with something lower impact, just incase!
7  Talk about Health, Fitness, & Exercise - Exercise Forum / Exercise Forum / Re: Do you exercise at home or at a Gym/Studio on: February 25, 2010, 04:31:48 PM
For years I worked out at a gym. I would do 4-5 times a week for the last year I have been working out at home. I like all the equipment at the gym but I am really enjoying the convenience of home.

Where are you working out?

The gym seems to be a great place to meet people and stay motivated, but at home it is nice and private.  It all really depends on your personality and if you can afford the right equipment at home.
